Cop dies after car plunges into YS River in St Elizabeth

A policeman is dead following a collision in St Elizabeth late Wednesday (July 29) in which his car plunged into the YS River.

Reports are that DSP Omar Morris of the Westmoreland Division was driving his private motor car along the Shaw’s Main Road when the crash occurred.

The Den understands that Morris was behind a Toyota Hiace minibus on route towards Black River when he collided with the bus.

Early reports are that Morris attempted to overtake the minibus but was prevented due to an oncoming vehicle.

Morris attempted to pull behind the minibus when he collided with its right rear wheel.

Both drivers lost control and ran off the road into an embankment; the minibus crashed into a tree while the DSP’s vehicle, a Honda motor car, plunged into the YS River.

Morris and the other driver of the Motor truck were both taken to hospital where Mr Morris was pronounced dead
