Embattled Hanna endorses Dr Haughton for St. James West Central seat

Member of Parliament for South East St Ann, Lisa Hanna, has endorsed fellow People’s National Party (PNP) member Dr. Andre Haughton for the St. James West Central constituency.

Hanna on Sunday introduced Dr. Haughton to her followers on Facebook in a lengthy post in which she outlined his credentials.

“Meet Dr. Andre Haughton,” said Hanna as she shared close to a dozen bullet points about the candidate who is to challenge Marlene Malahoo Forte in the upcoming General Elections.

Most of the details Hanna shared about Haughton related to his academic achievements.

” He’s also an International Monetary Fund (IMF) distinguished academic fellow and the UWI Most Outstanding Researcher for the Faculty of Social Sciences (2017). He was honoured as the Most Outstanding UWI Alumni for the decade 1999- 2008,” added Hanna in her post.

Hanna’s endorsement of political newbie Dr Haughton comes at an interesting time, as she is currently embroiled in turmoil over claims of corruption in the handling of constituency funds.

Hanna has since slammed a media report on the matter, noting that the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) did not find her guilty of breaching any established procurement procedure or willful misconduct.

However, some political commentators have said that Hanna’s endorsement of Haughton may do more harm than good.
