Farmer nabbed with ganja worth $3.2 million in St. Mary

A man was taken into custody on Wednesday (July 1) after he was found to be in possession of 813 pounds of ganja.

Reports are that at about 8:00 a.m, police from Area 2’s narcotics division were on an operation on the Oracabessa main road in St. Mary when a Toyota Hiace minibus travelling along the roadway was signalled to stop.

The driver complied with the orders and a search of the vehicle was conducted.

According to police, sixteen knitted bags of compressed ganja weighing approximately 813 pounds were found inside the vehicle.

The illicit drug has an estimated street value of JMD 3.2 million.

The man a 52-year-old Westmoreland farmer was arrested and charged for breaches under the Dangerous Drugs Act.
