Just In: Community spread suspected in St Thomas as more places put under quarantine

Albion and Seaforth have been added to a list of communities that have been placed under quarantine in the parish of St Thomas.

The quarantine period began at 5:00 am  on the Thursday (August 20) and  will run for 14 days ending on September 2.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) made the announcement in a release on its Twitter page early this morning.

The MOHW noted that the decision was taken as there has been an increase in cases, with 13 new COVID-19 cases observed over the last three weeks and some 107 persons have been identified as being positive for the virus in the parish.

Many of the cases are symptomatic, which is a cause for concern said the MOHW and suggests there may be ongoing transmission in the communities.

MOHW said that community surveillance will be carried out over the next two weeks to detect new cases and to implement appropriate measures to contain spread within the parish.
