Loader men fined 100 K for not wearing masks

Two men, who were seen loading people into taxis on Constant Spring Road, were arrested for not wearing masks, which are now mandatory in public spaces.

Reports from the police are that the men, identified as 29-year-old Howard Reid and 19-year-old Alex Mitchell, were observed placing passengers in motor cars parked at the intersection of Constant Spring Road and North Odeon Avenue.

The men according to police reports were obstructing the flow of traffic and were not wearing masks.

Both men were each fined $111,000 JMD for breaching COVID-19 regulations under the Disaster Risk Management Act.

Police further revealed that the men who were operating under the guise of being loader men were actually extorting taxi operators.

Both Reid and Mitchell are believed to be members of a gang operating in St. Andrew,

They were remanded in custody to and are to reappear in court on Friday (July 31)to answer to additional charges.
