Community plunged into sadness following death of Lacovia High’s VP Claudette Dunkley

The Lacovia High School community has been plunged into sadness following the passing of the institution’s Vice Principal Claudette Dunkley.

Dunkley’s passing was confirmed by the school in a post on Friday (September 17).

“Our community was plunged into mourning this morning at the passing of our institution Vice Principal, Miss Claudette Dunkley,” read a post confirming Dunkley’s death made by the school’s alumni association.

Dunkley was described as a “much loved instructor who served with distinction”.

The news of Dunkley’s passing has rocked the Lacovia community, with many expressing shock at her sudden passing.

Condolences pour in for Dunkley

According to some in the community it was particularly sad because of the suddenness with which she died.

It is a suddenness that has stunned the community, as Dunkley according to friends was not known to be ill.

However, a source close to the family, said Dunkley had begun experiencing “breathing difficulties” a day earlier.

“Wow! Condolences to her students, fellow coworkers, fellow Hamptonians, friends and families. O death, where’s thy sting? RIP Claudette… you’ve just gone ahead of many of us my dear. Life is really a journey and tomorrow is definitely not promised to any of u,” said one woman online.

“I never imagined I had to say this to you too ? RIP Miss Dunkley you taught me social studies at black river high you were the reason i got a distinction in that subject. We worked well together for 13 years. You will be sadly missed by myself and so many ? Lord comfort Jordan and the family at this time it is hard,” added a colleague.

For close to two decades, Dunkley taught at several schools in St Elizabeth.
