Holness promises free COVID-19 vaccine if re-elected

Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Wednesday (August 19) said that he would provide the COVID-19 vaccine for free to Jamaicans once it becomes available.

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) leader made the announcement on the party’s official Facebook page.

Holness also used the occasion to throw a jab at his political opponents noting that “unlike others” his administration actually had a plan for helping the country to overcome the coronavirus pandemic.

“Unlike others, we have a plan for ?? to #RecoverStronger from the coronavirus,” said Holness.

Holness’ promise comes just a day after the Opposition Leader, Peter Phillips, said he could not share his party’s plans on how it would deal with the coronavirus pandemic, as he noted that he was still awaiting access to the most up to date information on the virus.

As of August 18, data out of the Ministry of Health and Welness (MOHW) revealed that Jamaica had 1,146 COVID-19 cases of which 293 are active cases.
