Husband in custody after woman perishes in St Ann house fire

A man has been taken into police custody after his wife died following a house fire in Seville Heights, St Ann which occurred on August 1.

31-year-old Racquel Rattray who was in hospital for approximately 9 days succumbed to her injuries on August 10.  

Reports from the police are that at about 12:00 a.m. a disagreement had developed between Rattray and her husband, allegedly about monies raised from the opening of their shop.

The husband is alleged to have  poured gasoline into the shop and Rattray in an attempt to stop him went inside the establishment.

It is further alleged that the husband set the shop ablaze and locked his wife inside. 

Residents reportedly called the police and the Fire Brigade after hearing screams.

Cooling down operations were conducted and the woman was found amongst the rubble.

The husband was taken into custody; however his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.
