It’s back to work on Monday: Labour ministry says August 8 is not a holiday

The Ministry of Labour has said that Monday, August 8 “is a normal work day”.

Citing a sections of the Holidays (Public General) Act, the ministry in a statement said that because Jamaica’s Independence holiday falls on a Saturday, Monday, August 8, 2022, is a work day.

Many Jamaicans have been clamouring for the  government to make Monday a holiday in light of Jamaica’s diamond jubilee.

Jamaica celebrates its 60th year of Independence on August 6.
