The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) on Wednesday (August 21) defended the integrity of its crime statistics stating that it is committed to transparency and consistently provides accurate, up-to-date crime statistics for public scrutiny.
The JCF in a statement on the matter slammed an unnamed media house which it said insinuated that the data put out by the force was inaccurate.
“These baseless claims, attributed to an unnamed security expert undermine public trust in our law enforcement and the dedicated efforts of our members,” said the JCF in a statement.
“It is concerning that some media outlets have chosen to publish unsubstantiated claims without providing verifiable evidence or consulting independent, credible sources,” added the JCF in its statement.
While reiterating its commitment to partnership with all stakeholders, including the media, the JCF used the occasion to remind the media about the critical role it plays in shaping public perception encouraging journalist to be more balanced in their reporting.
