Kingston Mayor honours World War II veterans with special event at Cross Roads clock tower

Mayor of Kingston, Delroy Williams on Thursday (November 11) honoured the island’s World War II veterans at a special event at the Cross Roads clock tower.

Williams performed a symbolic clock chiming and wreath laying exercise to recognize and remember the over 16,000 British West Indians, who volunteered for service in the Second World War.

The clock tower was on November 11, 1956 formerly handed over to the then Kingston & St. Andrew Corporation at a dedicatory service.

The corporation later dedicated the tower to the memory of the fallen men and women who served in the war.
