Man dead after wall collapses on house in East Rural St Andrew

A man is dead after a wall fell on his house in Toby Gully, Shooter’s Hill, East Rural St. Andrew early Friday morning (October 23).

The man has been identified as 42-year-old Romeo Letchman.

Residents and the Fire Brigade are carrying out search activities for the man’s 15-year-old daughter who resided with him.

The Den understands that at around 7:00 a.m. heavy rainfall in the area resulted in a landslide which loosened a stone wall and other debris which landed on Letchman’s wooden home.

Residents who heard the commotion, and later saw Letchman’s flattened home, immediately went to his assistance and were able to pull Letchman’s lifeless body from among the rubble.

Several residents in the area said that heavy rains have resulted in them spending hours sweeping water from out of their homes.

Heavy rains and landslides have left several roads in the area impassable.

A flash flood watch is in effect for low lying and flood prone areas of all parishes is in effect until 5:00 p.m.tomorrow afternoon.
