Tropical Storm Ida forms but system moving away from Jamaica

Tropical Depression Nine is now Tropical Storm Ida.

The system formed in the Caribbean Sea on Thursday (August 26) and continues to bring heavy winds and rains across Jamaica.

According to the latest update from the Met Service, the system is moving away from the island, however the flash flood warning remains in effect for all parishes until Friday (August 27) at 5:00 p.m.

According to the Miami-based National Hurricane Centre, Ida is moving toward the northwest near 12 mph (26 km/h) and this general motion should continue over the next few days.

On the forecasted track, the center of Ida will pass near or over the Cayman Islands during the next few hours.

The system is forecasted to approach the U.S. northern Gulf coast on Sunday.
