St Mary mom charged after baby’s body fished from river

A 27-year-old mother was charged on Monday (February 1) with the Concealment of Birth after the body of newborn baby was found in Belfield district in St. Mary.

Charged is 27-year-old Reneisha Smith of Lewis Store in the parish.

Reports from the Highgate Police are that about 5:10 p.m on January 26, the body of the newborn baby boy, believed to be that of Smith was found in a river in the area.

The police were summoned and the body fished from the water and taken to the morgue for a post mortem.

An investigation was launched and Smith was subsequently arrested on Friday, January 29 and charged on Monday, February 01.

Smith is scheduled to appear before the court on Thursday, February 04 to answer to the charges of Concealment of Birth.
