Cayman closes its airport ahead of Tropical Storm Grace’s arrival

Cayman’s only international airport was closed on Tuesday (August 17) ahead of the anticipated arrival of Tropical Storm Grace.

According to the operators of Owen Roberts International Airport, the last scheduled flight between Cayman Brac and Grand Cayman arrived at 4:10 p.m.; after that the airport was closed.

The operators of the airport said that it would resume services once the “All Clear” has been given for the Cayman Islands.

According to the Cayman Islands National Weather Service (CINWS), a Tropical Storm Warning and Hurricane Watch are in effect for the island.

Given the forecasted intensity of Tropical Storm Grace, the CINWS anticipates that the storm will strengthen in to a Hurricane as the system moves west of the Cayman Islands.
