Publicity stunt or genuine website crash? Jamaicans spar over Vybz Kartel’s influence

Several social media users are questioning the veracity of claims put out by Downsound Entertainment that the website facilitating ticket sales for the upcoming Vybz Kartel concert in December had crashed due to a surge of users.

According to some social media users, who faithfully flocked to the website used to facilitate the ticket sales, Touchstone Link, no tickets were available at the advertised time.

Describing the online ticket sales outlet as one that is often used for popular Jamaican parties and concerts, social media users said it was unclear why there were no tickets actually available on the site.

One source close to The Den, who loaded the website minutes after 3:00 a.m. revealed that while the party flyer appeared on the website, there were actually no tickets available for sale when they clicked through.

It is a claim echoed by other social media users, noting that the site had not crashed, but had just lagged, with no actual tickets available on the website until closer to 4:00 a.m.

“Those tickets didn’t show up on the site until 3:55 a.m.” said one user who shared that she was finally able to make the purchase.

“Been trying for 45mins!!! Even when it load up there is no “ticket link,” added another.

Would-be concert goers have increasingly grown suspect of the turn of events, with some beginning to question whether the ordeal was a publicity stunt aimed at building interest in the event; while others commented that the deejay’s influence had waned among the general public.

“You’re tellin me that they didn’t anticipate such traffic – looks shaky,” said one user.

“So much for world boss, looks like there is a new boss in town – you know, if you know,” added another.

The entertainer is to make his debut performance after more than decade behind bars at his Freedom Street concert set to take place December 31, 2024 at the National Stadium.
