Condolences pour in for 28-year-old woman who died in Westmoreland gun attack

Condolences are pouring in for 28-year-old Sashalee Blackwood who died during a gun attack that injured two others, including dancehall entertainer  Rygin King, on Sunday (June 28) in Westmoreland.

Blackwood is being remembered as a hardworking mother of two daughters.

According to a classmate of Blackwood’s she was a very hardworking young woman, she noted that Blackwood would work during the day time and attend evening classes.

“We weren’t in class together but we worked together for a while and I knew she attended evening class,” said one woman on Facebook.

Another woman revealed that Blackwood was still going to school at the time of her death, adding that she was anticipating graduating, which had been postponed due to the coronavirus.

“R.I.P Sashalee Blackwood my classmate was looking forward to graduation now you are gone, she was such a humble person,” added another woman on Facebook.

The Past Students Association of The Anchovy High School also extended condolences to Blackwood’s family,  as she was a part of the graduating class of 2009.

Reports are that about 3.15 pm on Sunday Blackwood and friends were travelling in a convoy of three motor vehicles along the Struie main road, Bethel Town, in Westmoreland.

The grey Toyota Mark X in which Blackwood was travelling was involved in a collision which forced all three cars to stop as repairs were made to the vehicle’s tyre.

While the occupants of the three vehicles converged along the roadway as repairs were being performed another vehicle pulled up and started firing.

Blackwood and two others were hit. She was pronounced dead on arrival  Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital while the entertainer and another man were admitted.
