Watch: Hundreds flout COVID-19 rules to attend party in Riverton

Hundreds of revellers were in attendance at an illegal party in Riverton on Saturday night (July 4), despite measures to contain the COVID-19 virus which limits gatherings to 20 people.

The Bad Dolly event held by a popular social media influencer of the same name brought a large crowd to the Riverton Meadows community, which was the scene of much excitement as the DJ blasted the hottest dancehall and soca tunes.

Though the party promotional flier said that patrons would not be allowed entry without a mask, videos which surfaced online showed plenty of revellers having a blast with no protective covering over their mouth and nose.

While patrons were not compliant with the mask-wearing regulation, party organizers did end the event sharply at around 9:00 p.m., long before and in accordance with the latest amendment to the curfew announced by Prime Minister Andrew Holness on June 29.

One reveller who spoke to The Den under the condition of anonymity revealed that patrons were checked for masks on arrival but said that party attendees soon disregarded the masks as it was too difficult to party with them.

“You did haffi have a mask fi come in but yuh nuh know how it go the vibes get sweet and bowy, me not even sure weh mine deh, ” the party patron told The Den .

The patron said that the party was not just entertaining but revealed that the party organizer, whose real name is Paula, also used the occasion to give back to the community, as the patron revealed that money was distributed at the session.

Videos and photo which have surfaced online from the bashment event confirmed that some patrons did indeed receive monetary compensation for attending the event.
