Xaymaca to miss first carnival in Jamaica since 2019

Popular carnival band ‘Xaymaca International’ will not be participating in Jamaica’s carnival set to take place on July 10, 2022.

Xaymaca made the revelation in a statement uploaded on its Instagram page on Tuesday (March 29).

“Xaymaca International will not have our flagship or associated events within the period and we will not be participating in the Road March on July 10,” read the statement.

The band also says that it is aware of the growing anxiety and anticipation for its return by carnival patrons, however, the decision was made to not disrupt the original schedules out of support and respect for its partners.

“In an effort to not disrupt the original schedules of our sister carnivals within the region; which we also know our carnival chasers are already booked for,” added Xaymaca in its statement.

Xaymaca also used the opportunity to wish participating bands in Jamaica all the best for the upcoming event.

The announcement of the carnival’s return to Jamaica comes weeks after all measures under the Disaster Risk Management Act (DRMA) were withdrawn.

This will be the first staging of carnival since 2019, it was cancelled indefinitely due to the start of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020.
