COVID-19 infections in Jamaica hit new high, 21 deaths recorded

Jamaica on Saturday (August 28) registered 929 new COVID-19 infections, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW).

Most of the new cases were confirmed in the parishes of Kingston and St Andrew and Manchester, which saw an increase of 132 and 123 new infections respectively.

In addition, the country’s death toll was pushed to 1,504 after the country recorded 21 new COVID-19 related deaths.

Vaccinations Increase  

The MOHW in an update regarding inoculations said that 500,605 vaccine doses had been administered.

Of the over half a million doses administered, 359,675 were first doses and 139,242 were second doses.

The remainder were single doses.

The ministry is expecting an increase in uptake of the vaccine as it rolls out its COVID-19 vaccination blitz across the island during the second of the three lockdown days.
