The Minister of Health Dr Christopher Tufton on Wednesday (August 18) confirmed the presence of the highly contagious Delta variant of COVID-19 in Jamaica.
In a media release, the ministry said the variant was detected in samples sent to the Caribbean Public Health Agency(CARPHA).
The delta variant was found in the twenty two (22) of the sixty samples sent to CARPHA.
In addition, Jamaica recorded 19 more COVID-19 deaths, pushing the death toll to 1339.
Close to three hundred new infections were recorded pushing the overall COVID-19 tally to 59,377.
