Soldier fatally shot in Denham Town

A soldier was fatally shot at a security check point at the intersection of Charles Street and Chestnut Lane in Denham Town on Friday morning (August 23).

Reports reaching The Den are that members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and gunmen were involved in a shootout at around 1:00 a.m.

It is understood that the members of the military were on foot patrol duties in the Charles Street area when they approached a group of men who opened gunfire on them.

When the shooting subsided, one member of the military was found suffering from what appears to be a gunshot wound to the left side of his face.

The injured soldier was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital by a JDF mobile team where he was pronounced dead upon arrival at 1:30 am. He has only been identified as Pte Domville.

The gunmen made their escape on foot in the area.
