Tropical Storm Grace moving away from Jamaica but heavy rains continue

Despite Tropical Storm Grace moving away from Jamaica, tropical storm conditions continue to persist.

In its 8:00 p.m. update the local Met Service said that radar images confirm that most parishes continue to experience periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds from outer bands associated with Tropical Storm Grace.

However the Met Service said that TS Grace was moving away from Jamaica and towards the Cayman Islands.

According to the Met Service, at 7:00 p.m. the centre of the storm was located near Latitude 18.3 degrees North, Longitude 78.6 degrees West. This is about 32 kilometres (20 miles) west of Negril Point, Jamaica, or 295 kilometres (185 miles) east-southeast of Grand Cayman.

Grace is expected to move further away from Jamaica this evening and then over the Cayman Islands late tonight into early Wednesday.

A Hurricane Watch is in effect for the Cayman Islands.
