PM Holness congratulates UK’s next prime minister Keir Starmer on decisive victory

Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Friday congratulated British Labour Party leader Keir Starmer following the party’s success at the recently concluded general election in the UK.

The Starmer led Labour Party won 412 seats of the total 650, securing a huge parliamentary majority and bringing a new party to power for the first time in 14 years.

“Congratulations Sir @keirstarmer on your decisive victory in the UK’s general elections,” said Holness.

“I look forward to working with you on creating a greener and safer world even as we enhance trade, investment, cooperation and people to people ties between Jamaica and the U.K. home to one of our largest diaspora populations,” added Holness.

Starmer delivered his first speech as Prime Minister at Downing Street, accompanied by his wife Victoria.

The new PM told voters, “You have given us a clear mandate, and we will use that to deliver change.”
