Bamboo community erupts in celebration after Campbell’s big win at Paris Olympics

The community of Bamboo in St Ann was in a jubilant mood on Saturday (August 3) after one of their own earned a bronze medal on the Olympic stage for Team Jamaica.

Rajindra Campbell, who hails from the tiny St. Ann community, made his entire community proud evident in the many pot covers and screams that were heard in the area when he threw 22.15m, earning him a spot on the Olympic podium.

Long time supporters of the 28-year-old were overjoyed with his success, noting that Saturday’s bronze medal was a long time in the making.

Speaking with The Den, one supporter of Campbell, shared that the shot putter’s journey to the Olympic games dates back to a decade ago noting that the journey was a long one which speaks to the athlete’s tenacity.

“He attended Ferncourt and later competed for Kingston College (KC) in the 2015 Boys and Girls Champs,” Campbell’s supporter said.

“But even before that, we could see the potential from his days at Bamboo Primary; his journey was one that I had the joy of watching,” she added.

Similarly other supporters of Campbell shared their happiness online.

“Let’s celebrate my star, First Olympic medal!❤️ I am so proud of you Rajindra Campbell ! Show him some love! Natanya Lawrence mi hear yuh mouth from here suh! Straight out a Bamboo Primary #StraightOuttaBamboo #BambooProductions,” said Tricia Cameron.

“Congratulations to St Ann native Rajindra Campbell you have represented Jamaica well.. yuh mada looking down on you,” added another.
