Jamaica records 879 new COVID-19 infections

Jamaica on Sunday (August 22) recorded 870 new COVID-19 infections, according to data from the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

The Ministry in its latest COVID-19 clinical summary, reported that most of the new cases were confirmed in the country’s most populous parish of Kingston and St Andrew which recorded 145 new infections.

In addition, 14 new deaths have been reported pushing the country’s death toll to 1,402.

The ministry has said that the most effective way to fight the COVID-19 pandemic is for more Jamaicans to get the COVID-19 jab.

A total of  442,934 vaccine doses have since been administered on the island, with the country’s vaccination blitz campaigns taking place during the lockdown days recently announced by Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
