Matters surronding JC and Ruel Reid still being deliberated says Williams

Education Minister Fayval Williams has said that no decision has been taken in relation to matter surronding Jamaica College (JC) principal Ruel Reid.

Williams made the disclosure while responding to a question posed by a reporter at a post cabinet press briefing on Wednesday (November 10).

“With regards to a letter that JC announced that it sent to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information. All matters with regards to JC are still being deliberated on,”Williams said.

“And at this moment there are no decisions that we would like to make an announcement on,” Williams added.

What’s the deal with Ruel Reid

Reid, who is before the courts on fraud charges, resurfaced in the media in October 2021 after it was revealed that he continues to be paid as principal of JC.

The board of the school on October 28 referred the controversial matter involving Reid to Minister Williams, noting that they were expecting a decision by November 10.

According to the board, Williams could choose to bring a complaint against Reid, reassign him or negotiate a financial settlement.

Reid has been on special leave since 2016 when he left the school to become Education Minister.

He continues to be paid as principal of the institution.
