Firearms seized in Westmoreland, labourer charged

The Westmoreland police seized two firearms and forty-one 9mm rounds of ammunition during two separate operations in Grange Hill and Negril, Westmoreland in the last 24 hours.

Two men and a woman were taken into custody in relation to these seizures.

Only one of the two men taken into custody were charged.

Charged with possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Unauthorized Possession of Ammunition is 19-year-old Sean Shaw otherwise called ‘JT’, a labourer of Rory Street, Geneva district, Grange Hill,Westmoreland.

In the first incident, about 4:20 p.m., lawmen were in Geneva district, Grange Hill when they saw 19-year-old man walking along the roadway. On seeing the police team, the man ran. He was pursued by the police, when he dropped a weapon.

The weapon was retrieved, and closer examination revealed that it was a 9mm Palmetto Dagger Compact pistol with a magazine containing thirteen live 9mm rounds of ammunition.

He was subsequently taken into custody.

In the second incident, about 9:30 p.m., a police team was in Red Ground, Negril when the driver of a Toyota Vellfire motorcar with a woman passenger aboard, driving along the roadway, he was signalled to stop; he complied, and a search of the vehicle was conducted.

During the search, twenty-five 9mm rounds of ammunition were found in his possession.
