J’can woman previously convicted on human trafficking charges strikes again

A Jamaican woman was on Tuesday (July 23) arrested in the Bahamas on human trafficking charges.

Thirty-year-old Apolonia McLean was in 2015 convicted and served a three year sentence for the same offence.

The latest charges laid against McLean stem from a 2023 incident in which she is accused of transporting a woman to the Bahamas where she exploited her.

Reports are that between September 1, 2023, and November 3, 2023, McLean brought a woman to New Providence, later placing her in a prostitution ring.

McLean was not offered bail when she went before Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley, who informed her that her matter would be transferred to the Supreme Court through a voluntary bill of indictment

In 2013, McLean had trafficked a Jamaican woman into the Bahamas, where she withheld her documentation and made her work as a prostitute.
