Tropical Storm Beryl forms, Barbados issues hurricane watch

The meteorological services in Barbados has issued a hurricane watch for the caribbean country, following the formation of Tropical Storm Beryl in the Atlantic on Friday.

Tropical storm Beryl is expected to strengthen into a hurricane before reaching the island late Sunday.

According to the National Hurricane Centre (NHC), the centre of the system is projected to pass approximately 45 kilometers south of Barbados.

As at five o’clock this morning, Tropical Storm Beryl was located about 1580 kilometers east southeast of Barbados, with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour and moving west and 33 kilometers per hour.

Residents have been advised to prepare for strong winds that could damage houses and properties, along with potential flash flooding, particularly in flood prone areas.
