Popular messaging application, WhatsApp, will no longer work on some older smartphones come January 1, 2021.
A new update to the messaging app means that some smartphone users will have to upgrade their software to continue using the app.
While others will have to get a new device.
WhatsApp will continue to function as normal for iPhone users with iOS 9 software or higher.
Android users will have to upgrade to 4.0.3 operating systems or newer to continue using the app.
However, some smartphones like iPhone 5 or older, HTC Desire and LG Optimus Black will no longer be supported by this update.
WhatsApp currently has 2 billion active users, making it the most used messaging app worldwide.
